I don't wanna live I don't wanna breathe 'les I feel you next to me
The sound of well worn paddock boots brushing and clomping lazily across the cold stone floor of the stables echoed throughout the dark brown stained wood walls of the barn. All of the doors leading to the outside world were open and breathing fresh air into every nook and cranny. Fresh sunlight and grass mixed with the sweet smells of hay, molasses, and horse. Perfect. She took a long, deep breath to take in the smells of this new world. The air was clear and filled with so many different scents. Unlike the thick smell of eucalyptus and jacarandah that so often was taken for granted in the world she once came from. But it was behind her now. Her life was now for Bliss. Bliss. What a wonderful name. It fit perfectly with the season. As with hay to horses. It just fit. Bliss was a new member of Kalli's life. But her warm dark eyes and pony-curiousity sunk deep into her skin as soon as she layed eyes on her. Bliss had walked up slowly to her, cautiously at first. Then Kalli reached her palm out to the pony, taking advantage of this Bliss had pushed forward and rubbed her head on Kalli's body pushing her slightly off her feet in her haughty controlling manner. Yet Kalli saw through her ornary pony behaviour and fell in love anyway. Stop. The boots stopped. In front of them was a stall. The small pony inside lifted as much of her head as she could over the tall stall door. Kalli giggled. Unlatching the metal contaption that was supposedly horse proof she slipped inside the stall. Bliss was staring at her blankly. The whole place was new to her. Kalli rubbed the middle of Bliss's forehead. With a nod in agreement Bliss turned around and headed over to her feed trough then stamping her foot on the ground hitting the wall underneath the trough. Not now Blissy. Jes checking in on ya. But I did bring you a little treat. Kalli held out her small hands as fists to let Bliss choose one. When she began to nibble at her right hand Kalli giggled and opened it up revealing a sugar cube which Bliss sucked right up. Kalli then opened her left hand and popped in the other sugar cube. She sighed and enjoyed the feeling of the sugar melting from a cube to nothingness. Sliding out of the stall she slumped down to the floor and leaned against the door. She fumbled with her iPod eventually getting one earphone in and chose a song. She closed her eyes and listened with one ear to the music and with the other to the quiet sound of horses rustling in their stalls and blilss breathing through the crack inbetween the door and the wall. Being near Bliss made everything seem alright.
you take the pain I feel waking up to you never felt so real

_____ So there I was, busily messing with my hair atop a paddock fence while keeping an eye on Gator. More on my hair and less of the horse, that is. That annoying flip again! I constantly played with that certain section of hair lining my jaw, the sweat in the palms acting like a gel and flipping it out past my chin. Hours I spent flat-ironing it, and it always did that. Oh well I thought, a careless expression visible upon my features as I returned to gripping the top board with both hands and leaned back a little to recollect my thoughts. _____ Sunlight hit my features in such a way that I looked more mature. More like a woman and less of a young, irresponsible teen. Metamorphasis scared me. Terrified me, to be truthful. A sigh was produced from my lungs as my silver stare traveled up towards the white, billowing clouds. What little hair I had cascaded past my shoulders as a quick breeze taunted the hairs on the back of my neck, caressing my small frame for a moment before moving on. I turned my attention back to my hair, which I had decided to dye yesterday shades of auburn and strawberry blonde. The cut was a tad different as well. Did I like it? To be honest, not at all. I missed my dark locks; and auburn just wasn't cutting it. At the same time, I didn't feel like changing it back. So red it remained. _____ My attention was then focused upon Gator, whom I was already as attached to a horse as you can get while only knowing one for a few hours. How many similarities can a human have compared alongside a horse? Many, depending on the pair. I, myself, had picked out a few already. Gator was most definitely, "goofy-looking", as categorized by the Cedarbridge owner herself. I found nothing wrong with that, as I was somewhat goofy-looking myself. Bad form, hard to handle. Heck, might as well just name the horse Lindsay. At the same time, I couldn't wait to try him out in the ring. He was, afterall, a stallion. I had never been in the prescence of one before, therefore; I had no experience riding an ungelded horse either. A question may come to mind, What the heck was she thinking? In my little world of imaginary realism, I was thinking: "Hey, I can handle anything. What makes a stallion any different?" We would certainly see what made a stallion different. Whenever I got around to riding him, I figured. _____ I had been at the barn for a while now. If someone else was also here, I was honestly clueless. I looked over my shoulder just as a figure entered the aisle, the all too familiar sound of riding boots echoing just loud enough for myself to here. So there was a glimpse of hope for me -- I wouldn't die from lack of social interest. As I was deciding whether or not to walk down and make myself known, Gator came up nipping at my legs hoping for treats. _____ "You big flirt." I said, fishing for treats in the tote resting in my lap and presenting a horse cookie soon after. The treat was gone within seconds and I soon found myself being assaulted for more. "Last one." I said, grabbing the last carrot and holding out a flat palm. "Good boy," I murmered, stroking Gator's nose before making a mental note to ask for clippers. I had convenientally lost mine sometime during the journey here. Ah well, mine were horrible to clip with anyway. _____ I slipped off the fence after giving Gator a final pat on the nose and headed down to the barn to see what all the minimal activity was about. As I stepped into the dimly-light barn, I let my gaze sweep across the aisle before spotting a girl. Ah, great. I thought to myself. I was never considered very social my entire life, which included now. Greetings, most importantly, were definitely not my thing. _____ Rubbing the back of my neck with an open palm, I took another awkward step forward. The bottom of my boots scuffed the concrete, making a loud and very noticeable screech that echoed off the walls. Ah, so, there was no way she didn't just hear that. If she didn't notice me before she more than likely did now. Just perfect. I was already coming off as an awkward child once more, like I have in the past. I immediately took my place at the nearest stall, smooching at the resident and hoping he would come over for attention. No chance of that. Hay obviously overruled any sort of attention I had to offer. So, I was left hanging over the half door on tiptoe, planning my next move. Smooth Lindsay. I thought as I bit back my lip on a case of nerves. Just smooth.
